Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer (MEP) with strong expertise in high-rise residential building systems. The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience in HVAC design, mechanical system coordination, and construction support for multifamily and mixed-use developments. This role will focus on designing and coordinating efficient, code-compliant mechanical systems for high-rise residential buildings in New York City.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical (HVAC) system design for high-rise residential and mixed-use buildings.
- Design and size HVAC systems, including central plants, distribution systems, risers, and zoning strategies.
- Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, structural, and architectural teams throughout design and construction.
- Prepare and review construction documents, specifications, and mechanical drawings using BIM tools (Revit preferred).
- Ensure designs comply with NYC Mechanical Code, Energy Code, ASHRAE standards, and applicable regulations.
- Review shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, and assist with field coordination during construction.
- Perform load calculations and evaluate systems for energy efficiency and performance.
- Support commissioning, testing, and project closeout activities.
- Assist with value engineering efforts while maintaining system performance and occupant comfort.
- Conduct site visits and help resolve installation and field-related issues.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience focused on building systems.
- Strong background in high-rise residential HVAC design.
- Experience with HVAC design software such as Trane TRACE, HAP, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of NYC Mechanical Code and ASHRAE standards.
- Experience with BIM coordination (Revit MEP preferred).
- Ability to manage coordination across multiple disciplines and project teams.
- Strong technical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NYC high-rise residential, luxury condominium, or mixed-use projects.
- Familiarity with central plant systems, VRF systems, and energy-efficient design strategies.
- Experience collaborating with developers, architects, and construction teams.
- PE license preferred but not required.
