Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer

We are seeking a Plumbing / Fire Protection Engineer to join an established MEP engineering team in New York City. This position will support the design and delivery of building systems across commercial, institutional, healthcare, laboratory, and other technically complex facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design plumbing, fire protection, and medical gas systems for building projects.
  • Develop plumbing system concepts and carry designs through construction documentation.
  • Perform domestic water, sanitary, sewer, natural gas, and medical gas calculations.
  • Perform fire protection system calculations and support system design.
  • Select and size equipment for plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, reports, and other project documentation.
  • Develop designs using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Coordinate plumbing and fire protection systems with mechanical, electrical, architectural, and other disciplines.
  • Communicate with clients, architects, utility companies, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Participate in design and construction meetings.
  • Review RFIs and submittals related to plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Conduct site visits and prepare field observation reports.
  • Assist with punch lists and project closeout.
  • Incorporate sustainable design practices where applicable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year institution.
  • 3+ years of professional experience with commercial, healthcare, institutional, or similar building projects.
  • 3+ years of current plumbing and fire protection design experience.
  • Strong AutoCAD and Revit capabilities.
  • Understanding of national and/or New York City plumbing, fire protection, and building codes.
  • Experience preparing construction documents and coordinating with other MEP disciplines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare, laboratory, science and technology, or medical facility project experience.
  • Medical gas system design experience.
  • Experience working on technically complex building projects.
